Not really
by: Anonymous

I work in Maryland/DC and every job that I've had as an LMT, I got mainly because i am male. apparently in my area there is a shortage of male LMTs so we are in somewhat high demand

Spa Employment
by: Eric in Montana

I totally agree with the guy's post above. It's 1000 times harder to get hired and/or stay busy for a guy in a spa setting since spas are seen as "girls' clubs", at least out here a rural state. But, if you're a guy and you CAN get regular, full-time spa employment in a backwater/redneck state, it shows that you really kick ass (not patting myself on the back, ha ha!)!

males/females at spas
by: Raul Alberto

I have found it nearly impossible and a waste of time, at least where i reside for a male lmt to seek employment at a spa. Even some chiropractor clinics here locally are behind the 8 ball regarding the benefits of having a strong male lmt working their clinics, some will not even try a male lmt even on a part time basis.

I have found the best luck for me to be at a clinical setting, where they need a bilingual therapist which i am. Still, it has been a challenge at times to find work.

And after looking hard for a whole year i finally found a place to take me on for saturdays, though they rejected my inquiry for work several months before due to my gender then after not being able to keep a female therapist there for a long time, and several females quitting or not showing up at all i tried once again and since december ive been working there every saturday.

Hard for guys
by: Anonymous

It's usually harder for men, because being in various states of undress lying on your stomach leaves you very vulnerable, and this makes a lot of women uncomfortable, as for men, some think of a male massage therapist is homoerotic... but in larger cities, especially well-educated cities, it is usually not that big of a deal.

Those that get massage often, and have a gender preference, will know to request a male or female therapist.

I find more male therapists I know work in clinics, where deep tissue massage is often requested or needed.
