in response to what kind of school i went to..i do not think i want to name the school right now..except its a well known chain of massage schools called by some as the walmart of massage schools.
i had a few bad experiences in the field due to discrimination and they do not want to accept that it really happened. furthermore, they refuse to give me any more job leads until i go to the school personally which is far away from me and do an 'evaluation' to see if its my massage skills that are keeping me from getting work.
im thoroughly disgusted with them and have told everyone i know to not send anyone they know who is wanting to do massage to this school..
their reputation is on the line..
unfortunately some schools do not see it as important to take care of their male students as well..but it will cost them their reputation.

what kind of school do u go to?? by: given a chance #2
what kind of school do u go to that calls you a liar?? i would like to know. that means im a liar, which i am not.... let me make it a little more clear with my first story.
she is a female chiropractor that has been looking for a more tech MT than a spa MT. we talked a bit about our goals and what we expected from each other.(well she did most of the talking) i dont "work for her" but work in her practice as an independent contractor with another female MT. which i think is GOLD!!!
"GIVEN A CHANCE"!!! i will prove myself and make a name for myself.(in a good way)(LOL massage humor).
will keep ya posted.
keep your heads up guys!

that is awesome! im happy for the lmt who got that gig at the female doctor's practice. Yes it can be very hard, i even mentioned this to my school that i went to which they pretty much told me i was not telling the truth..
i decided to not ask my school for help anymore and just keep doing what im doing, which is get my name out and work with the social circle that i have.
best of luck to you..let us know how it goes!

I have to keep this short, because i have to go to work. but being a male in this industry is very hard and me to i am also having the hardships of getting work.
But i was given a chance by a female doctor to work at her practice. How lucky is that?
I'll add more later

Ok, its me again. So my thoughts about being a male lmt..yes it can be a challenge. But often i think ive been guilty of fixating too much on those who won't receive my touch instead of focusing on all those potential clients who do not have issues with male therapists. They are out there!
May i suggest you get a massage chair if you do not have one already and find places to give people five minute chair massages and let people experience your touch. I love chair massage for its practicality and because it is done clothed and without lotion, even men will be ok with this modality.
Try it, i have found myself getting best exposure recently and even got me a client and another potential client through a chair massage event. That is my input for now, chair massage..try it.
It's great.

Good previous suggestions and I'll add that you might also find work at local area spas or Hotel spas in your area. They're great for being post-school training environments for OJT.
Welcome to the REAL word as no one said it would be easy-hard or hard-easy, in fact, it may get worse before it gets better for you.

i wish i could offer the best encouragement but i myself am having a hard time..the only thing i could say is try to find a male therapist who is seasoned in the business who needs an extra hand in the business and who can teach you the ropes.
outside of that try the massage envys..although i havent found work there..i know they do hire lots of guys..
